In honor of Record Store Day on Saturday, the Zia Records crew here made a guidebook that they are now handing out to Coachella fans as they walk through the gates.

Serious props to We Are Augustines, who hit the Coachella main stage early this afternoon. My iPhone has me believe it’s 106 degrees here in Indio, and they gave it 110 percent.

“We are trying to soak this s— up, because we are headed to England next week and will be wearing jackets,” the lead singer shouted.

There really is only one explanation for the small crowds: It. Is. Hot.

The medical crew on scene asked festival goers to remember to hydrate — and, no, those sugar drinks don’t count.

Wear comfortable clothes, pace yourself, and cut back on your alcohol intake while the heat stays.

We Are Augustines: “Inside a chapel of shiny apples…”

Set your TiVo: Coachella artist We Are Augustines will make their network TV debut this month.

The indie rock group will perform Feb. 24 on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” the band announced today. They’ll rock “Chapel Song,” which the group calls “an ode to lost love.”

The single kicks off their 2011 album “Rise Ye Sunken Ships,” which was named one of NPR’s Top Five Concept Albums of the Year:

Brooklyn indie rock with real hooks and singing that comes from the gut. As on the PJ Harvey record, the sound here might belie the somber nature of the story being told: Singer Billy McCarthy’s brother James lost a lifelong battle with depression and committed suicide. The two half-brothers’ journey through foster homes, addiction, mental illness and institutionalization could make for a wearying tale, but McCarthy’s music is cathartic, anthemic and ultimately triumphant. The album is not single-minded; quite a few tracks are just good, catchy rock numbers (“Chapel Song,” for example).
