According to a report on billboard.com, a reunited Black Sabbath was one of the planned headliners of Coachella 2012 before guitarist Tony Iommi’s recent diagnosis of lymphoma forced the aging rockers to pull out.
The report goes on to say it wasn’t clear which headliner (Black Keys, Radiohead, Dre/Snoop) was added as a replacement for Ozzy Osbourne, Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. But Radiohead is a Coachella favorite… The teaming of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg fills the hip-hop headliner slot (which went to Kanye and Jay-Z the past two years)… And Black Keys played just last year on Friday on the Main Stage just before headliners Kings of Leon. Gotta think Dan and Patrick are in a larger font on the poster this year if (and that’s a big IF) Black Sabbath had to bail.
This is one of the crazier Coachella headliner rumors I’ve ever heard.
