Rock legend Lou Reed is out.

The former The Velvet Underground guitarist and singer canceled his Coachella appearances and three other shows across California “due to unavoidable complications,” Goldenvoice told The Desert Sun on Monday. The news was first reported by The Scenestar.

Neither Reed nor Goldenvoice have explained the cancellations beyond that or said whether the shows would be rescheduled.

We’ve seen only one guess from a blogger over at the Orange County Register: “At 71, he would have been the eldest act to perform in Indio – perhaps someone finally told him it gets triple-digit hot there?”

Goldenvoice declined to comment Tuesday morning on whether Reed would be replaced on the Coachella lineup.
