Coachella campers beware of wind, Goldenvoice warns as weather advisory continues

Coachella pushed this alert via its mobile app on April 14, 2013.

Coachella has been warning campers all weekend to secure their tents — but they stepped up the warning with a push alert on Sunday.

The alert warns about a high wind advisory that will continue through the end of camping.

The wind advisory will end at 6 p.m. Sunday — and then a high wind warning will take effect and will continue until 9 a.m. Tuesday, a meteorologist told The Desert Sun shortly before the push alert.

Gene Autry Trail — a main thoroughfare into Palm Springs — remains closed to and from Interstate 10 because of the winds.

The five members of the Desert Hot Springs band Slipping Into Darkness learned four days ago they were playing Coachella.

They didn’t make the top 10 finishers of the mydesert.com Tachevah contest because “we didn’t tell anyone to vote,” said lead singer and guitarist Michael Durazo. But someone from Goldenvoice called them and told them they were one of just two Coachella Valley bands getting into Coachella anyway.

Passion Pit, an indie band with one of the biggest hits in the country, will headline Tachevah: A Palm Springs Block Party, Goldenvoice and The Desert Sun announced today.

Passion Pit’s current hit, “Carried Away,” recently spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Alt-Nation weekly countdown on Sirius satellite radio. Its latest album, “Gossamer,” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year and also produced the radio hit, “Take A Walk.”

Goldenvoice announced that first weekend Coachella Festival 2013 passes will be available online for local residents.

Tickets are still sold out to residents living outside of these area codes:

92201, 92202, 92203, 92210, 92211, 92230, 92234, 92236, 92240-92241, 92253, 92255, 92258, 92260, 92261-92264, 92270, 92274, 92275, 92276, and 92292.

Prices for passes are $349 with all fees included.

Pedestrians Vs, Tribesmen and You Me and Us have been chosen to perform as opening acts at the first-ever Tachevah: A Palm Springs block party!

The Pedestrians. is a horn-supplemented band from Indio featuring a fusion of punk, ska, funk and hip-hop
The Tribesmen is an indie experimental band from Coachella that emphasizes instrumental music
You, Me & Us is a Bermuda Dunes indie duo that recently played South By Southwest

Eighty-three bands submitted music videos.

During one week of voting, you cast more than 95,000 votes for which bands should play Tachevah: A Palm Springs block party!

Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett, Goldenvoice vice president Skip Paige, and MyDesert.com music guru Bruce Fessier conferred Sunday and chose from among the Top 10 for the the three lucky winners.

The three bands will score free admission to Coachella — and will perform April 17 (between Coachella weekends) in front of Goldenvoice executives, the MyDesert.com audience and you, the fans.

DJ Alf Alpha will keep the groove going, and the headliner will be a Coachella act that will be announced soon.

The party — think beer garden + live music — runs from 5 to 11 p.m. April 17 at Spa Resort Casino, 401 E. Amado Road in Palm Springs. Each band will perform for 30 minutes.

Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett expressed interest in booking bands among the Top 10 acts for concerts at Goldenvoice venues throughout Southern California.

More than 95,000 votes were cast for which bands should play Tachevah: A Palm Springs block party!

During the one week of voting you narrowed the field from 83 bands that submitted music videos.

Report: Coachella local sales to begin April 3

Goldenvoice officially says it will announce local ticket sales “within the next week” — but multiple Twitter users claim the promoter is already releasing details.

The local sale will begin April 3 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and could be open to a broader range of zip codes than it was last year, according to several screen shots purporting to show email exchanges with a Goldenvoice community liaison.

The Desert Sun sent one of the screen shots and asked Goldenvoice to confirm if the exchanges were true. The rep did not respond to that question, saying only that details would be released later.

Coachella 2013: Local sales details expected ‘within next week or so’

No, you have not missed the details about a local Coachella sale.

Goldenvoice will release details about the sale in “the next week or so,” a spokeswoman told The Desert Sun on Tuesday.

Anxiety over the access to a semi-private sale hyped up this week after Coachella Weekend 1 wristbands began arriving in mailboxes around the world.

Goldenvoice has not released any details at all about who will be eligible or when the sale will be held.

The local sale was much earlier last year , when the promoter sold 1,000 passes to east Coachella Valley residents on Jan. 28 for each of the two Coachella weekends and Stagecoach.

Last year it was open to residents of ZIP codes 92201, 92203, 92236, 92241, 92253 and 92274 are allowed to purchase the tickets.
