Are you ready to “Rock the Funk”?
Desert DJ Entertainment Group will play host to a full musical lineup Saturday (March 2) at the Date Shed, 50725 Monroe St. in Indio.
What the Funk, DJ Paul Z, Boycott Radio and the Indio-based Wyte Gye are among those slated to perform.
The event runs from 9 p.m. Saturday until 1:45 a.m. Entrance costs $5.
Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to the Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Relief Foundation, a registered nonprofit that provides assistance to deputies and other law enforcement in crisis situations, ranging from injuries to death.
There will also be a raffle, with 100 percent of the money raised going to the family of San Bernardino Sheriff’s Detective Jeremiah MacKay.
MacKay, a married father of two, was killed Feb. 12 during a gun battle with fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner.
The concert on Saturday is 18 and up. Buy tickets online here.
Spot a band or DJ that you really like while you’re there? Make sure they’ve submitted their music video for Tachevah, a Palm Springs block party brought to you by Goldenvoice and The Desert Sun.
We’re all pretty amped right now for Coachella and Stagecoach, but we got notice of another cool event coming up.
The Date Shed in Indio will host a concert April 7 that doubles as a “celebration of life” for desert punk rock star Britt Killen. They’ve dubbed it “BrittStock.”
Killen, who was born in Palm Springs, was both a medic and a member of Unsound, which The Date Shed calls “a legendary” low desert punk band. He died Oct. 22 at the age of 44.
Unsound, Half Astro, Fatso Jetson and Sean Wheeler & Zander Schloss will play and raise money for Killen’s family, which includes a wife and two young daughters.
“The bands performing at Britt Stock on April 7 have been active in the local desert punk and rock scene for more than 25 years,” The Date Shed tells us.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Must be 18 years or older. Donation request is $10.
