The sweltering heat of the desert was subsiding on the final evening of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but the crowd was still sweating.
Music fans were packed like sardines, shoulder to shoulder, at the performance of Social Distortion on the second Sunday of the festival, but many of them weren’t there to enjoy the punk-rock band.

As lead singer Mike Ness performed a set riddled with the band’s hits, many attendants just stood there, some barely bopping to the tunes. While some were waiting for the following act, Vampire Weekend, many were waiting patiently for the headliner, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

This is what my Coachella looks like at the moment as I use the live stream to prepare for weekend two.
I wasn’t expecting to go to the festival this year, so of course, any Coachella weekend is better than no Coachella weekend. But as I thought about the bad rap the inaugural repeat weekend got — hotter, fewer special guests, etc. — I realized that there are also plenty of pluses that, for me, outweigh the element of surprise that the weekend-two crowd may miss out on. Now that the Coachella lineup has been released, keep up with what the bands are saying before they play.
We’ve found the official Twitter accounts for nearly every artist performing.
See all their tweets at once with this list.
Make sure to hit “subscribe” for it to appear on your own account’s list section for easy access.
Note to self: Come up with a band name that people can easily find searching. I’m looking at you, “Cassy” and “Stars.”
P.S. Shout out to the person who decided “Little Green Cars” and “Mord Fustang” should be placed next to each other on the poster.

From all the cowboys and cowgirls to performers like Aaron Lewis, The Band Perry, Kenny Rogers, Sheryl Crow, The Del McCoury Band and – very shortly – Brad Paisley, we’ve got over 140 photos from the last day at Stagecoach at mydesert.com.
Anyone who’s seen Fitz and the Tantrums knows they like to get down — and, this time, they brought Coachella down with them.
During their main stage debut, the Los Angeles-based indie pop, neo soul band ordered the crowd down to the ground during their hit single, “Moneygrabber.”
Let me tell you: We were all more than willing to play along, because this six-piece band tears it up on stage unlike anyone else.
The set flew by as singers Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs brought their signature harmonies and can’t-sit-still energy to the enormous crowd.
They also gave Coachella fans a first-ever glimpse at their next album with the song “She’s Outta My League,” a catchy tune that stays true to Fitz and the Tantrums’ sound but offers a fresh spin.
“What do you think? Should we keep it?” Fitz asked the crowd.
Yes, Fitz. The new song — and the band — are keepers.
Guys, I think I just found my “Coachella surprise.” You know what I mean — when you wander into a tent and fall a little bit in love with a band you’d never heard of before.
Folk band First Aid Kit is two Swedish sisters whose harmonies drew in a full house to the Mojave tent and captivated the mellow crowd before amping up to a photo finish.
They were perfect for a sunny Sunday afternoon at Coachella, but their Johnny Cash influence shines through enough that they would be perfect for Stagecoach, too.
My friends and I stuck around for far longer than we usually do — and not just because the sisters’ looks are reminiscent of actress Emma Stone and an Olsen sister.
The Empire Polo Grounds seem enormous when tens of thousands of people crowd in for Coachella. I accidentally walked from one end to the other, though, hitting every stage right as each set started this afternoon.
Here is the quick and dirty:
– Gary Clark Jr. is worth stopping by for sure. The crowds were loving his falsetto on the sexy songs, and the extended guitar riffs were unreal.
– Grouplove hit the Mojave stage with crazy high energy, and the cheers were almost deafening. I can’t wait to see more next weekend.
– Feed Me has a rockin’ light show in the Sahara, and the bass was pounding so hard I swear my hair vibrated. I am callling it now: That one will be a sweaty mess next weekend.
Of course, what would a stroll through Coachella be without the hippie fashion show?
As always, there are plenty of bikinis, ’70s throwback clothes and big bling, including the sweet gold outfit Jimmy Cliff is wearing on the main stage next to me as I type. I can’t wait for warmer temps next weekend to see the full fashion show.
But can someone please explain the cardboard boxes that some men are wearing as clothes?
